The most important thing about levelling your caravan is planning. If you can plan the position of your caravan and the caravan is easily manoeuvrable we would recommend using any of the Milenco range of levelling ramps. Always plan the position of your caravan so you have to do the minimum amount of levelling, or at least less then the size of your levelling device.
If you are not confident with manoeuvring you caravan, or tend to camp in restricted spaces, the Milenco Aluminium Lockloy Leveller would be more suitable.
You also need to consider carefully the ground conditions. In recent years in the U.K the ground was so wet it was difficult to use any type of levelling device because of the rain. No level can turn a quagmire into a suitable pitch. So as a general rule in soft ground conditions you will need to continually monitor the level of the caravan, as it is likely the caravan will sink into the boggy ground. In April 2006 we saw levels sink into the ground at a depth of up to 4 inches. For levelling in soft conditions we recommend placing the level on top of a grip mat.
You also need to carefully consider safety. You never use or stack your levels in a way they are not designed to be. We have seen levels propped upon stones and rocks, this is dangerous and should never be done, as this could result in injury.
Levelling Twin Axle Caravans
To level a twin axle caravan, all the same rules apply, but in addition you will also need to consider the following. When using levelling chocks or aluminium levellers the effectiveness will be limited if only used on a single wheel. We would recommend the use of two levelling devices. For levelling ramps, again planning is critical, as you need to position the first level to drive over it in order to position it between the wheels, alternatively you can use a pair of Milenco Original levels back to back to drive over. |
